Mr. Joseph R. Thomas serves as regional vice president of Government Employees Insurance Company (GEICO) with general management responsibilities for Virginia Beach, Va., regional and Power Sports operations.
Mr. Thomas, who joined GEICO in 1972, has held a variety of positions in sales and service, underwriting and human resources. In 1993 he was appointed assistant vice president, and in 2003 was named vice president. He assumed his current position in 2005.
Mr. Thomas serves on the board of directors for the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, is the current chairman for the Insurance Federation of North Carolina and was the regional income development chairman for the American Cancer Society. He is also the past chair for the United Way of South Hampton Roads chapter. Mr. Thomas was the past executive chairman for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Virginia Beach and past chairman of Drive Smart Virginia.
He holds a B.S. degree in business administration from the University of Maryland. Mr. Thomas is originally from New York City and currently resides in Virginia Beach, Va., with his wife, Allison and their three children.
