Hampton Roads Youth Poets Perform at Chrysler Museum

Star LaBranche Staff Writer

Norfolk, VA.  The Hampton Roads Youth Poets took over the stage at the Chrysler Museum on April 23 for their “Youth Poetry Festival.” Judges for the event included Michael Khandelwal, executive director of The Muse.

As part of the Teens with a Purpose organization, these slam poets put on an astoundingly powerful show. Their performances were engaging and dealt with difficult subject matter with an honest and raw style.

Poets ages 13 to 19 took the stage to perform slam poems about trauma, loss, social injustice, politics and religion, among other topics. Special performance poet Elijah Judson, 17, performed a political slam piece about Donald Trump’s anti-Muslim statements.
