Together We Bloom: FUSE Fest 2026 Celebrated Youth Voice, Healing and Community in Norfolk
For 14 years, FUSE Fest has created a space in Norfolk where young people, families, artists, advocates, community organizations, and neighbors can come together around creativity, wellness, culture, and change.
On June 6, 2026, Teens With a Purpose welcomed the community back to Purpose Park for the 14th Annual FUSE Fest: Together We Bloom, a free, intergenerational festival centered on youth voice, community healing, creativity, civic engagement, and collective action.
Held during Wear Orange Weekend, this year’s festival carried an especially meaningful message: our communities grow stronger when we listen to young people, support one another, and work together toward a safer and healthier future.
What “Together We Bloom” Means
The 2026 theme, Together We Bloom, reflected the belief that transformation does not happen alone.
Growth, healing, safety, and opportunity are connected. When young people are given places to express themselves, develop their talents, build relationships, and participate in decisions affecting their communities, everyone benefits.
FUSE Fest brought that idea to life by creating opportunities for residents of all ages to gather, celebrate, learn, reflect, and take action together.
Community members were also encouraged to wear orange and flowers in recognition of Wear Orange Weekend, a national movement remembering lives lost and forever changed by gun violence while encouraging communities to work toward a more peaceful future.
Putting Youth Voice at the Center
One of the featured experiences of FUSE Fest 2026 was The People’s Town Hall: State of the Youth Voice, a youth-led, intergenerational conversation designed to move the community from listening to action.
Hosted by TC Muhammad of Hip Hop Caucus and Doran Glass III, 2025 Virginia Youth Poet Laureate, the discussion addressed challenges affecting young people and their communities, including:
Gun violence
Mental health
Environmental justice
Housing insecurity
Civic engagement
The future young people want to create
The message behind the Town Hall was simple and urgent:
If youth are brave enough to speak, we must be brave enough to act.
“FUSE Fest is proof that love still lives here and that the answers to many of our challenges already exist within our young people,” said Andre Love, Co-Executive Director of Teens With a Purpose. “For fourteen years, this festival has shown what is possible when youth are given the space to lead, create, and imagine a better future together.”
A Festival Built Around the Whole Community
FUSE Fest is more than a day of entertainment. Every part of the festival is intentionally designed to connect creativity with wellness, education, resources, and community engagement.
Festival experiences included live performances from local and national artists, interactive art installations, wellness and mental health activities, Reiki and Kemetic Yoga, family engagement areas, community vendors, and the FUSE Fest Resource Village.
Participants could also explore the Green Zone with plant education and hands-on environmental activities, receive free resources and supplies, access haircuts and braiding services, participate in fresh food distribution, and connect with organizations serving families throughout Hampton Roads.
Mini empowerment experiences included REVIVE, Beyond the Bullet, and Teen Mental Health First Aid, while voter registration and civic engagement opportunities encouraged residents to become more involved in shaping their communities.
“At a time when communities are facing challenges around violence, housing, mental health, and environmental justice, FUSE Fest creates a space where people can come together across generations to celebrate, heal, build relationships, and take action,” said Michelle Sims, Co-Executive Director of Teens With a Purpose.
Youth Leadership Creates Community Change
FUSE Fest represents the work Teens With a Purpose carries out throughout the year.
For 30 years, Teens With a Purpose has used Creative Youth Development to help young people discover the power of their voices, develop leadership skills, strengthen their creativity, and become active participants in their communities.
Based in Norfolk, Virginia, TWP provides year-round programming for young people in the St. Paul’s Quadrant and surrounding communities and operates Norfolk’s only dedicated teen center fully staffed and led by Teens With a Purpose.
FUSE Fest demonstrates what can happen when young people are not simply invited into community conversations but are trusted to help lead them.
It Takes a Community to Bloom
FUSE Fest would not be possible without the organizations, businesses, artists, advocates, volunteers, and community leaders who contribute their time, resources, knowledge, and support.
Community partners for FUSE Fest 2026 included the City of Norfolk, Virginia Arts Festival, Sentara Health, Norfolk Health Department, Norfolk Botanical Garden, Norfolk Master Gardeners, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Elizabeth River Trail, Norfolk Public Library, Moms Demand Action, Community Safety Coalition, Hip Hop Caucus, VisitNorfolk, WHRO Next Gen Collective Board, NAMI Coastal Virginia, and many additional organizations working throughout Hampton Roads.
Their participation helped transform Purpose Park into a place for celebration, connection, learning, healing, and possibility.
The Movement Continues
FUSE Fest may happen once a year, but the work behind it continues every day.
Through workshops, events, creative programming, leadership development, community partnerships, and year-round youth programming, Teens With a Purpose continues to create spaces where young people can be heard, supported, and empowered to lead.
Because when young people bloom, communities can bloom with them.
