The 2015 Hampton Roads Youth Poetry Slam Festival, in its seventh year, features young writers, emcees, spoken word artists and performers for an epic event, centering on the powerful poetic expression of the youth in our community. Hampton Roads Youth Poets is part of a global network of 70 Creative/Youth Development organizations that present the world’s largest Youth Poetry Festival attracting thousands of attendees and 500 participants from almost every state in the US and countries like New Zealand, England, India and South Africa.
Something for Every Youth Poet! Each youth poet, ages 13 – 19, who competes in one of the qualifying slams, is automatically eligible* to become a member of the 2015 Hampton Roads Youth Poets.
Qualify for the Grand Slam! The highest ranking poets will go on to perform and compete on stage at the Hampton Roads Youth Poet’s Grand Slam at Nauticus.
New York, Baltimore, Washington DC, Atlanta & more: Hampton Roads Youth Poets travel throughout the region and country to appear on stage at workshops, open mics and regional slams during the year.
Brave New Voices! The top six poets*, plus entourage* made up of as many as 12 team members, plus coach and mentors will take part in Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam Festival, as seen on HBO.

Participation Eligibility: Youth living in Hampton Roads must be age 13 – 19 as of August, 2015.
Registration Details: Register for Qualifying Slams (may register for more than one). Individuals who place at either qualifying slam will advance to the Grand Slam.
